The Tesla Cybertruck is facing more issues as the automaker recalls over 11,000 vehicles due to problems with the giant windscreen wiper and trunk-bed trim. The recall is the latest setback for Elon Musk’s futuristic pickup truck, which has experienced a rocky rollout.
According to a recall report issued by regulators, Tesla will be replacing wiper motors on all affected vehicles to prevent potential damage and malfunction that could be caused by “electrical overstress.” The recall affects model year 2024 Cybertrucks manufactured from November 13, 2023, to June 6, 2024, encompassing an estimated 2% of recalled vehicles.
In addition to the wiper issue, Tesla is also recalling 11,383 Cybertrucks over concerns that a trim in the trunk bed may have been improperly attached. This comes after reports in June indicated that Tesla had delayed Cybertruck deliveries due to problems with the wiper system, with some owners reporting issues with the giant single windshield wiper on Tesla forums.
Despite the recalls, Tesla has not reported any accidents, injuries, or deaths related to the faults. The Cybertruck’s unique single wiper design attracted attention during the vehicle’s release, with Elon Musk acknowledging the challenges in finding a suitable solution for clearing the massive front window.
These recent recalls add to the challenges Tesla has faced in producing the Cybertruck, following a previous recall of nearly 3,878 vehicles due to an accelerator flaw. If you are a Cybertruck owner or have information to share, contact the reporter at tcarter@businessinsider.com.
