Ms. Thanh, 36 years old, had been struggling with infertility for over a decade. Multiple gynecological issues, including ovarian abscess, adnexitis, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis had caused complications in her pelvic region. On June 29, Associate Professor Dr. Trieu Trieu Duong discovered a massive infected abscess in Ms. Thanh’s abdomen, measuring 17.5×12 cm and weighing over 6 kg. The size of the abscess was equivalent to a full-term pregnancy. The abscess had grown to such a large extent that it had compressed nearby organs, causing significant health issues for Ms. Thanh.
The surgery to remove the abscess was complex, as it involved eliminating the infected tissues, including the uterus, ovaries, sigmoid colon, and connecting the colon in one procedure while preserving other non-necrotic organs. The tumor was benign but had caused severe complications due to its size and impact on surrounding tissues.
After the surgery, Ms. Thanh’s recovery was successful, with her digestive and urinary functions returning to normal. She was able to walk gently within a week of the procedure and was discharged from the hospital after two weeks. Associate Professor Duong emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and treatment for such conditions to prevent further complications.
