Every few weeks, the US or the EU imposes new sanctions on Russia in an effort to weaken its ability to continue the war. In response, there is a wave of analyses, data, and disinformation that downplay the impact of the sanctions. The EU recently imposed its 14th round of sanctions, prompting Russia to claim that the EU is harming itself more than Russia. This ongoing cycle not only obscures the success of sanctions but also fails to capture the broader economic context of the war and its implications.

To help navigate through the data and provide clarity on the economic situation, Ilana Bet-El welcomes Agathe Demarais, Senior Policy Fellow for Geoeconomics at the ECFR, who has expertise in sanctions.
