Ryan Garcia has been expelled by the World Boxing Council (WBC) following a social media livestream where he repeatedly used racist and discriminatory language against Black people and Muslims, per the Associated Press. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was expelling Garcia from any activity with the organization. This decision was made due to the rejection of any form of discrimination.

Garcia posted a form of apology on X but has since deleted the post. In his post, he mentioned that he was trolling and wanted all the killing to stop. He expressed love for everyone and apologized if he had offended anyone. CNN has reached out to Garcia’s representatives for comment, but has not yet heard back.

Following his expulsion from the WBC, Garcia’s family released a statement citing the boxer’s mental health issues. They stated that they do not support any statements he made regarding race or religion, as these do not reflect who Ryan truly is and how he was raised. The family emphasized that Ryan has been open about his ongoing struggle with mental health and they are committed to ensuring he receives the necessary help to navigate this challenging time.

Sulaiman, in his post, mentioned that the WBC had offered Garcia “multiple attempts” to help with mental health and substance abuse issues. The organization seems to be actively involved in supporting Garcia during this time.
