World Cafe, the daily music and interview program produced by WXPN/Philadelphia and distributed by NPR, recently received two prestigious 2024 New York Festivals® Radio Awards. The organization announced this exciting news yesterday.
One of the awards is a Gold award for the interview titled Weird Al on World Cafe with Raina Douris, which aired in February 2023. The interview featured a conversation with multi-platinum artist “Weird Al” Yankovic and was conducted by World Cafe Host Raina Douris, with production by Kimberly Junod.
Additionally, World Cafe was also honored with a Bronze award for the episode, Velour and Corey Fox: The All-Ages Venue and the Man at the Heart of Provo’s Music Scene, which was part of the show’s “Sense of Place” series highlighting Provo, Utah. The episode aired in January 2024 and was hosted by World Cafe Contributing Host Stephen Kallao, with production by Miguel Perez.
Bruce Warren, the Executive Producer of World Cafe, expressed pride and excitement for the team’s well-deserved recognition. He highlighted the show’s commitment to delivering compelling artist interviews and unique content to public radio listeners since 1991.
The New York Festivals® competition, which has been running since 1957, recognizes excellence in radio programs across 14 audio categories.
