Zay Jones is currently on a free agent tour that includes a stop in Kansas City today. The visit with the Chiefs is scheduled for Thursday, as reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN. This will be the fourth stop on Jones’ busy free agency tour this week, having previously visited the Titans, Cardinals, and Cowboys.
Jones became a free agent after the draft when the Jaguars released him to make room for wide receiver Brian Thomas, who was their first-round pick. The 29-year-old wide receiver spent the past two years with the Jaguars after stints with the Raiders and Bills. Despite struggling with injuries last season and tallying just 34 catches for 321 yards, Jones had a more productive season in 2022 with 82 catches for 823 yards.
The Chiefs recognized the need to improve their wide receiver position this offseason, especially with legal issues and a potential suspension looming over last year’s top receiver, Rashee Rice. Up to this point, the Chiefs have signed free agent Hollywood Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round to address their needs at receiver. Adding Jones to the mix could further strengthen their receiving corps for the upcoming season.
