Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Wednesday that Russia is preparing to mobilize an additional 300,000 soldiers in June. However, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov, cited by the TASS agency, stated that “that is not true.” Zelensky made the announcement during a press conference in Kyiv with the Finnish president Alexander Stubb, but when asked about the needs of the Ukrainian army, he refused to provide specific figures. He did mention that throughout the year, Ukraine doesn’t need half a million troops. Last December, Zelensky had said that army commanders had requested the mobilization of 500,000 additional men.

At the press conference, Stubb declined to speculate on a scenario where Finland would send troops to Ukraine, stating that there is no reason for Finland to do so. He emphasized that Finland supports Ukraine in every possible way and signed an agreement to provide security guarantees to Ukraine for the next ten years. In the current context, the priority is to provide Kyiv with weapons, ammunition, training, and support its path to entering the European Union (EU) and NATO.
