On Saturday, the Peace Summit for Ukraine was inaugurated by Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and Swiss President Viola Amherd. Zelenski expressed his hopes of making history with a broad consensus on his proposed peace formula to end the conflict, despite Russia’s rejection of the proposals. Representatives from all over the world are attending the summit from various continents and political backgrounds.
Zelenski emphasized the importance of all nations’ opinions and ideas in the peace process, highlighting the need to restore the United Nations Charter. He believes the summit will be a historic event that will play a crucial role in establishing peace. Amherd echoed these sentiments, expressing hope that the summit will inspire a process for just and lasting peace.
However, Russia and China, who have their own peace initiatives, will not be attending the summit. Despite their absence, nearly a hundred countries and international organizations will participate. The United States will be represented by Vice President Kamala Harris and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, reaffirming their support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. Participants will have the opportunity to present their ideas and perspectives on achieving peace in Ukraine.
