10 Villages Devastated by Hamas to Receive NIS 1.5 Billion for Rebuilding

The Tkuma Directorate announced this week the launch of a project to restore the settlements of the Western Negev that were damaged during the Hamas massacre on October 7-8, 2023. The ten most affected communities will receive a total of NIS 1.5 billion for reconstruction, which is significantly higher than the normal compensation they would have received from the IRS. The majority of this funding will be allocated to three settlements – Kfar Aza, Be’eri, and Nir Oz, where many buildings require demolition or major repairs.

In addition to these three settlements, seven more – Nirim, Reim, Kerem Shalom, Ein HaShlosha, Cholit, Kisufim, and Nahal Oz – will receive tens of millions of shekels for restoration efforts. Each of the ten settlements will have control over the funds allocated to them and will make decisions regarding their recovery independently.

The Tkuma management has outlined two conditions for the allocation of funds. Firstly, settlements must sign a support agreement with a management company licensed by the Land Administration to assist with financial management, contracts, and design. Secondly, at least 60% of the allocated amount must be used for restoring housing stock, with the remaining 40% available for infrastructure updates and other needs.

The remaining settlements affected on October 7 have already received compensation from the tax department and will receive additional amounts to expand repair work. Overall, the restoration project aims to support the affected communities in rebuilding and recovering from the devastating attacks they endured.
