Before dedicating his life to monasticism, Wu Bing was a wealthy businessman with a prosperous cotton factory in Nantong, China. However, 12 years ago, Wu’s marriage was in crisis, leading him to divorce and ultimately become a monk. He sold his factory, left the city, and moved to a temple in the mountains of Fujian province, seeking peace.
Unfortunately, the isolated temple turned out to be a center for pregnant women with personal problems, many of them abandoned by their partners or facing financial difficulties. Wu, moved by their plight, opened a free shelter within the temple to support these women throughout their pregnancies and help them care for their newborns.
As word spread about Wu’s shelter, more and more women came seeking assistance. Eventually, the abbot of the temple expelled Wu, prompting him to move to a villa in Zhejiang, where he continued his work with pregnant women and single mothers. Through social media and online platforms, Wu shared his story and garnered support from donors and volunteers across the country.
Since 2012, Wu claims to have rescued 600 single women who became pregnant and could not support their children. He has become known as “Dad Wu” and continues to provide support and care for vulnerable women in need. His inspiring story has captured the attention of the Chinese media and garnered widespread recognition for his selfless dedication to helping others.
