Residents of Allegheny Township will soon have another grocery store option as Aldi is set to open a store in Hyde Park Plaza. Township supervisor Jamie Morabito confirmed this news, with Plaza owner Jeff Paul stating that the store is expected to open in the last quarter of 2024. Since Paul purchased the property in September 2022, Hyde Park Plaza has seen the addition of new businesses like Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and Dollar Tree, bringing the total number of storefronts to 16 with 564 parking spaces available.

Currently, Giant Eagle is the only supermarket operating in Allegheny Township, making Aldi a welcome addition to the community. Aldi has ambitious plans to open 800 new stores nationwide by the end of 2028 and has identified Pennsylvania as a key area for expansion. With nearly 2,400 Aldi locations already established across the country, the addition of a new store in Allegheny Township is part of the company’s growth strategy.

Jamie Morabito has made it a priority to attract new businesses to Allegheny Township since joining the board in January 2022. His efforts to bring Aldi to the area involved providing traffic and demographic data to the company’s site coordinator over a year and a half period. Despite the township’s relatively small population of 8,000 being a concern for Aldi and other companies, Morabito worked to showcase the benefits of establishing a presence in the community.

As new businesses like Aldi continue to set up shop in Allegheny Township, vacancy rates in the area’s plazas are expected to decrease. Morabito remains optimistic about the growing commercial landscape in the township and believes that the arrival of major stores like Aldi will attract even more businesses in the future.
