Samsung has once again solidified its position as the leading global smartphone manufacturer. In the first quarter, the South Korean company captured a market share of nearly 21 percent by selling 60.1 million devices, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). Apple followed closely behind with a 17 percent market share and 50.1 million iPhones sold. Despite a slight decline in sales for both Samsung and Apple, the overall smartphone market saw growth for the third consecutive quarter.

Chinese manufacturers showed significant progress in the market, with Xiaomi experiencing a 33 percent increase in device shipments, landing in third place with 40.8 million units sold. Transsion also saw a massive 85 percent growth, securing the fourth spot with 28.5 million devices sold. While Apple had claimed the top position at the end of 2023, Samsung regained its position as the leading smartphone vendor in the first quarter of this year, as stated by Ryan Reith of IDC. It is anticipated that American and South Korean manufacturers will maintain their dominance in the premium segment, while Chinese competitors focus on increasing sales figures.
