Atlas, the successor to the retired robot of the same name, is an entirely electric robot with a bright ring for a head. Manufactured by Boston Dynamics, Atlas is designed for real-world use and is considered by many to be the most dynamic humanoid robot in the world. In a video published by Boston Dynamics, Atlas can be seen waking up, stretching its legs and arms, and rotating its head and torso 180 degrees.

While Atlas’s predecessor had a more human-like appearance, the new electric version is sleeker and more elegant without any human-like facial features. Boston Dynamics emphasizes that although Atlas may resemble a human form, it is designed to move in the most efficient way possible to complete tasks rather than being limited by human range of motion. Atlas is said to move in ways that exceed human capabilities.

The first task for Atlas will be at Hyundai’s car factory, where it will serve as a training ground for testing new applications. Despite some disturbing movements in its rotations, Atlas displays impressive balance and flexibility. The robot is intended to move in ways that go beyond human capabilities, showcasing its potential for a wide range of tasks in various industries.
