Employment opportunities in bioengineering are expected to increase by 5% from 2022 to 2032, which is faster than the average for all occupations, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This growth indicates a promising future for those interested in careers in biotech, health tech, and engineering.

Case Western Reserve University is currently in the process of renovating one of its buildings to create a business incubator. This initiative aims to support startup businesses by providing them with access to the university’s technology resources. The renovations for the building are estimated to cost around $50 million and are projected to be completed by October 2026.

Michael Oakes, the senior vice president of resource and technology management at Case Western Reserve University, explained that the incubator will serve as a hub for businesses looking to utilize technology to drive growth and innovation in Northeast Ohio. The incubator will provide access to lab equipment and resources, making it an attractive destination for businesses from around the country and the world.

Andrew Cornwell, the director of the business incubator, highlighted the simple application process for businesses interested in working out of the incubator. By providing access to physical space and resources, the incubator aims to support the success and growth of emerging businesses in the biotech industry.

Oakes emphasized the advantage of having hospital partners and a medical school in close proximity to the business incubator, highlighting the potential for growth in the biotech sector in Ohio. The incubator is designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and human interaction, creating a dynamic environment for business development and success in the field of bioengineering.
