During his time as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson implemented a rule requiring voters to show official identification. However, during the recent local elections, Johnson reportedly forgot his own law and arrived at the polling station without ID, according to Sky News.

As a result, polling station staff had to ask the former Prime Minister to leave after he failed to follow the legislation he had introduced while in office. Johnson had intended to vote in South Oxfordshire, where he resides with his family, but encountered this issue.

The law, which was enacted in 2022, mandates that individuals must prove their identity with an official photo document like a passport or driver’s license. Critics argue that this requirement disproportionately affects poorer, older, and minority individuals who may be less likely to possess such identification.

Although Johnson’s spokesperson did not deny the incident, they stated that he was still able to cast his vote. The 59-year-old had encouraged voters to support the Conservative Party and its current leader, Rishi Sunak, earlier that day.
