Brazil’s bid for the 2027 Women’s World Cup received a higher ranking than the bids submitted by Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium in a FIFA evaluation report released on Tuesday. The FIFA Congress is scheduled to vote on the two bids on May 17 during its meeting in Bangkok. This will mark the first time that the members of FIFA will have an open vote to determine the hosts of the tournament.

According to the technical evaluation, Brazil’s bid received an average score of 4.0 out of 5, while the joint European bid received a score of 3.7. Both bids were deemed eligible for consideration as they surpassed the minimum hosting requirements during the technical evaluation process. The United States and Mexico recently withdrew a joint bid, stating that they will now focus on hosting the 2031 tournament. South Africa also dropped its bid last year and will now target hosting the 2031 event as well.

Brazil has previously hosted the men’s World Cup in 1950 and 2014, but this would mark the first time a South American country hosts the Women’s World Cup. Germany hosted the Women’s World Cup in 2011, while the 2023 tournament was held in Australia and New Zealand, marking the first time the event was hosted by two nations.

The upcoming vote by the FIFA Congress will determine the host country for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, with Brazil’s bid currently holding a higher ranking according to the evaluation report.
