Democratic values are currently facing challenges on a global scale, as democratic processes seem to be stagnating in the face of rapidly advancing social technologies. In order to breathe new life into democratic values, it is essential to not only re-legitimize governance practices, but also to establish a common set of principles that are embraced by the citizens.

As we look to design democracy for the 21st century, we are faced with the question of whether we should uphold democracy in a low-tech environment or adapt to the ever-changing technological landscape. How can we reimagine democratic institutions in a world dominated by AI and social media? Can we create a system that allows for widespread online participation and deliberation?

Join Lawrence Lessig, the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School, and Claudia Chwalisz, Founder and CEO of DemocracyNext, for a discussion on the future of democracy and technology in our digital age. The conversation will be moderated by RSM Employee Fellow Manon Revel. Together, they will explore the challenges and opportunities that arise when democracy meets technology, and consider what steps can be taken to ensure that democratic values remain strong in the face of technological advancement.
