Bronxdale hosts annual science fair for visually impaired students

Rising scientists in the Bronx showcased their discoveries at an annual science fair on Thursday at the New York Institute for Special Education. The event was specifically for visually impaired preschool to 12th-grade students who have been conducting research, collecting data, and building projects around topics such as solar energy, invisible ink, and slime since February. The theme of the fair was “chemical reaction,” and all displays were presented in braille.

Nestor Alfonso, an 11th-grade student, expressed his excitement about being able to participate in an event typically reserved for public school students despite their visual impairment. The opportunity to showcase their projects and discoveries was a unique and empowering experience for the students involved.
