Justin Martin ‘96, an alum of Western Oregon University, is being recognized for his achievements as a business owner and lobbyist. Martin graduated from Western with a bachelor’s degree in public policy and administration, a program that helped set him on a path to career success.

During his time at Western, Martin participated in internships that solidified his interest in pursuing a career in government. These experiences, whether in state, local, or tribal government, showed Martin that public policy and administration was the right fit for him.

Martin’s passion for his work is evident in his dedication to lobbying for his tribe, The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, for nearly three decades. In addition to his work in government relations, Martin also owns a vintage guitar store, Guitar Castle in Salem, which he credits his education at Western for helping him navigate the business side of things.

After graduating from Western, Martin felt well-prepared for his career thanks to the internship opportunities he had during his time as a student. As a non-traditional student, Martin appreciated the guidance and flexibility of Western’s curriculum, which allowed him to focus on his passions and succeed in his chosen career path.

Overall, Justin Martin’s success story is a testament to the value of a Western Oregon University education in preparing students for fulfilling careers in a variety of fields, from government to business ownership.

Established in 1856, Western Oregon University is Oregon’s oldest public university, located in Monmouth. With a diverse student body of about 4,000 students, Western is known for its supportive, student-focused environment and faculty-led instruction. The university prides itself on serving underrepresented backgrounds, veterans, and non-traditional learners, making it a preferred campus for those seeking a quality education in a nurturing community.
