Business owners and residents start assessing damage in the aftermath of tornado destruction

Among those affected is Gary Mensch, whose family-owned business, JJ’s Furniture, was destroyed by the tornado. Mensch described the experience as surreal, with 25 years of hard work being wiped out in an instant. While his home was spared, the furniture store lost its roof and was left in ruins, with debris and bricks scattered everywhere.

The tornado injured dozens of people in Sulphur and tragically claimed the life of one woman who had to be rescued from the debris of a downtown bar. Despite the devastation, Mensch remains hopeful, emphasizing the strength of the community and their resilience in the face of adversity.
