Catawba Ridge High School’s band achieved an incredible feat by winning the Winter Guard International Percussion and Winds World Championship over the weekend. The world championships took place at various universities from April 18-21, with units from around the world competing in different divisions and class levels.

Catawba Ridge fielded groups in the Percussion Scholastic Concert World and Winds Scholastic Open categories. The Indoor winds group competed against groups from several states and after prelims, they placed third with the highest music score. In the finals, they excelled in both music and visual categories, securing first place and the gold medal in the Winds Scholastic Open with a score of 91.625. This achievement marks only their second year in the winds division of WGI and they are now eligible for promotion to the World class division.

The school’s indoor percussion ensemble also had a stellar performance, winning first place and high music and artistry in the Concert World class. They continued their success in the finals, claiming first place with a score of 95.350. This victory represents their first world championship title after years of podium finishes.

Catawba Ridge’s accomplishments mark a significant milestone for South Carolina, as only the second group from the state to win a World Class World Championship in percussion since Fort Mill High School in 2003 and 2005. Overall, the school’s band has made a remarkable impact in the competitive world of music and performance.
