The International Chess Federation (FIDE) is planning to set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Attempt on July 20, 2024, for the most chess games played in 24 hours. This event is meant to mark FIDE’s centennial and International Chess Day.

Players of all skill levels, from beginners to grandmasters, can join in the celebrations either online or offline, from anywhere in the world.

Individuals can participate in the attempt by playing at least one 5-minute game on platforms like chess.com or lichess.com between July 20, 2024, 00:00:00 CEST and July 21, 2024, 00:00:00 CEST. They can also join offline events listed on the 100.fide.com/gwr website.

Organizers can plan their own events for the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Attempt, making sure they adhere to all requirements and registering them on the attempt’s landing page before July 15, 2024. Results confirming the number of games played must be submitted after the attempt.

Registration for tournaments participating in the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Attempt will begin in May. For more information, visit the official FIDE Guinness World Record attempt page.
