Becerra fell short of breaking Ella Gibson’s 715-point world record by just two points, scoring a total of 713 in the competition. Despite not achieving the record, it was a significant 10-point personal best for her in international competition. Becerra expressed her desire to secure the top spot in qualification and maintained her focus throughout the competition. She was satisfied with her performance, particularly with her nine arrows that were only just out of the bullseye.

The top eight qualifiers in the competition will receive bonus points towards the Hyundai Archery World Cup Ranking in 2024. Some of Becerra’s main competitors include Asian Games Champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam, eight-time circuit winner Sara Lopez, and world number one Ella Gibson. Vennam was seeded second, Lopez fourth, and Gibson fifth in the rankings. Additionally, World Archery Champion Aditi Swami qualified in eighth place with 704 points.

In the compound women’s competition, there was no cutoff for the top 64, but Jesse Sut won a three-way shoot-off to secure the last slot in the bracket for the compound men’s event. Korea qualified in the top spot for the compound men’s and mixed team events, while reigning world champion India claimed the pole position for the compound women’s team.

The competition in Shanghai will continue with compound team eliminations on Wednesday morning, followed by recurve qualifying rounds in the afternoon. The battle for supremacy in archery remains fierce as talented athletes compete for top honors in the sport.
