South Dakota Chief Technology Officer Pat Snow is retiring this year after almost 30 years in state government, as announced by the state’s chief information officer, Jeff Clines.

Clines posted on LinkedIn that the South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications is in the process of hiring a new chief technology officer to replace Snow. He mentioned that they are seeking an exceptional technology leader to succeed Snow, who has provided dedicated service to the State of South Dakota for many years.

Snow has been a part of the state government since 1996, starting as a network technologies manager. Throughout his career, he has also served as the state director of telecommunications and briefly as the state’s CIO in April 2018, until Heather Perry took over as the CIO. Perry was appointed by Gov. Kristi Noem in 2019 to serve as interim CIO.

In a statement to StateScoop last November, Snow discussed the state’s ongoing IT modernization efforts, such as the enterprise identity platform and plans to digitize services. He mentioned that the state has already moved about 120 services online and aims to continue releasing new digital services on a quarterly basis.
