Working as an engineer in the semiconductor industry requires up to 6 years of both basic and in-depth study. Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son emphasized the importance of developing suitable training programs for engineers in the semiconductor chip industry until 2030 during a conference held on April 26. According to Deputy Minister Son, focusing on training engineers for the semiconductor industry is a strategic direction that can lead to rapid and sustainable economic development by providing the necessary human resources for technology transfer and development.

It is estimated that Vietnam will need between 30,000 to 50,000 engineers to serve the microchip industry by 2030. This poses both an opportunity and a challenge for universities to develop training programs that meet the quantity and quality demands of businesses. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien from Hanoi University of Science and Technology suggested that training programs should be based on the actual needs of the industry, determining which fields of semiconductor ICs the engineers will work in after completing their training.

Dr. Nguyen Duc Minh from Hanoi University of Science and Technology proposed a pilot manufacturing program that involves collaboration between universities, businesses, and government to provide scholarships, tax incentives, and resources for training programs in the semiconductor chip industry. Dr. Nguyen Minh Son from the University of Information Technology in Ho Chi Minh City highlighted the gap between the skills taught in universities and the skills needed in IC design companies. He proposed a training program focused on System-on-Chip-oriented IC design to address this discrepancy and emphasized the need for a shared laboratory model to promote research and train human resources in the semiconductor chip industry.

Overall, the development of training programs and models for engineers in the semiconductor industry is essential to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in this field and to drive technological advancements and economic growth in Vietnam.
