The Cubs are making moves by calling up Matt Mervis and Hayden Wesneski, as reported by Iowa Cubs beat reporter Tommy Birch. As of now, no corresponding moves have been announced. Mervis is returning to the North Side after a brief stint last summer, where he impressed the team with his performance at three different levels in 2022. He continued to excel this year in Iowa, hitting .288 with five home runs.
There is speculation that Ian Happ may be one of the corresponding moves as he left Friday’s game with hamstring tightness. The Cubs split a four-game series against the Marlins, with a final score of 6-3. Wesneski, who was briefly up with the team last week, threw four scoreless innings in relief against the Diamondbacks.
