Former Boston Red Sox player and 2004 World Series winner, Dave McCarty, has passed away at the age of 54 in Oakland, California after suffering a ‘cardiac event’. McCarty spent three seasons with the Red Sox and was part of the historic 2004 World Series championship team. The Red Sox organization expressed their condolences to his wife, Monica, and their children, Reid and Maxine.

McCarty, who played both first base and outfield, had an 11-year career in Major League Baseball and spent the final three seasons with the Red Sox. He played a total of 630 games in MLB with seven different teams before retiring. After his playing career, McCarty worked as a TV analyst for the Red Sox on New England Sports Network. He had recently been at Fenway Park for a tribute to the 2004 World Series team.

His former teammate, Lenny DiNardo, shared his sadness over the news of McCarty’s passing on social media, calling him a great guy who will be missed. McCarty’s legacy as a member of the Red Sox’s curse-breaking championship team in 2004 will forever be remembered by fans and the baseball community.
