The Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, announced that during the G7 Climate, Energy, and Environment meeting held at the Royal Palace of Venaria, significant commitments were made. These commitments include stopping the use of coal by 2035, addressing water issues for the first time, and recognizing Italy’s stance on nuclear power and biofuels.

Pichetto emphasized that the G7 countries have taken a significant step in combating climate change by setting a target to phase out coal by the first half of the next decade. This marks the first time such an objective has been established. Additionally, the G7 countries have highlighted the importance of water conservation and have committed to focusing on this issue moving forward.

Furthermore, discussions on nuclear power were productive, with agreements reached on collaborative research and clean energy production in alignment with Italy’s preferences. The topic of biofuels was also addressed, with commitments made by important European countries like France and Germany, along with Brazil’s support, strengthening the alliance’s objectives.

In addition to environmental issues, Italy emphasized the importance of fostering growth and equality in Africa, which was well-received by all participating countries. The focus is on integrating mechanisms for financial frameworks and investments to support economic and social development in Africa.

Overall, the outcomes of the G7 meeting reflect a unified effort among industrialized nations to address pressing environmental challenges and promote sustainable growth and equality on a global scale.
