The Detroit High School Sports Awards, presented by Detroit Area Honda Dealers, has announced the nominees for the Boys and Girls Wrestler of the Year. The winner will be revealed during the live show on June 18 at The Fillmore Detroit. This show is a partnership with the U.S. Army and is part of a nine-month student-athlete recognition program that will culminate in a red-carpet event this spring. The event will honor athletes, coaches, and teams from the greater Detroit region that participate in sanctioned Michigan High School Athletic Association sports.
During the live show, nominees for various awards, including player of the year for each recognized sport, will be acknowledged. Additional awards such as the Courage Award, Coaches of the Year, Teams of the Year, and Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year will also be presented. All nominees who RSVP will receive complimentary tickets to the event, thanks to sponsors. Nominated athletes can register for the show online, and guests can purchase tickets on the event’s website.
The nominees for Boys Wrestler of the Year include Connor Bercume, Wyatt Hepner, Zak Knapp, Darius Marines, Mason Stewart, and Brock Trevino. For Girls Wrestler of the Year, the nominees are Margaret Buurma, Nakayla Dawson, Belicia Manuel, Sabrina Nauss, Angelina Pena, and Tyler Swanigan. The awards show aims to highlight the achievements of student-athletes both on and off the field, recognizing their hard work and dedication in their respective sports.
