Construction crews in Minneapolis are working on a major reconstruction project that impacts dozens of Uptown businesses. Robert Sorenson, owner of Bobby Beads, is closely monitoring the progress as he navigates through the machinery, dirt, and dust. He admits that he has never experienced a reconstruction project of this intensity before, but he is relieved that the impact on his business has not been as bad as he initially feared.

Sorenson expresses gratitude for the unexpected increase in business despite the construction disruptions. Customer foot traffic varies depending on the day and weather conditions. Some customers are walking several blocks to reach his store, highlighting the inconvenience caused by the construction.

Nearby at La Bodega Taco Bar, owner Alex Rosario is facing challenges with sales dropping by half compared to before the construction started. He also mentions that delivery drivers often cancel orders due to the difficulty in navigating the construction zone. Rosario expresses frustration at how the project is negatively affecting businesses in Uptown.

On the other hand, Dale Lee, owner of Uncommon Grounds Coffee House, shares a different perspective, stating that their business has remained relatively stable despite the construction. Lee views the disruptions as temporary inconveniences that will lead to long-term benefits for the neighborhood. He envisions a modern and improved area once the project is completed.

As the current phase of the construction project progresses, plans are already in place for further work to the north on Hennepin Avenue, between 26th and Douglas Ave, starting in 2025. Despite the challenges faced by businesses in Uptown during the construction, many remain hopeful for a revitalized neighborhood once the project is complete.
