A ribbon cutting event was held at the Elk Grove Center to officially open the new science building, called Building B. This $20 million facility is home to classrooms and laboratories for biology, chemistry, and other science courses. Fire Chief Felipe Rodriguez, who used to be a Cosumnes River College student, expressed excitement about having the college located in front of Cosumnes Fire Station 77. He believes the new building will provide opportunities for students to prosper, learn, and advance their future careers.

Associate Vice President of Student Services Tadael Emiru highlighted the importance of the new facility in providing access to college courses for the Elk Grove community, since the EGC is the only higher education campus in the area. He mentioned that science classes are usually the first to fill up during enrollment and the new facility will help increase the capacity to serve these students. College President Dr. Edward Bush emphasized the significance of the new building in expanding CRC’s educational program while incorporating new technology to benefit students.

Director of Administrative Services Chris Raines mentioned that the EGC is planning to complete its third and final phase of expansion in the next 10-15 years, adding another facility. Classes have been ongoing at the new science building since the spring 2024 semester, with plans to offer more courses in the upcoming fall term. Raines also pointed out that the classes offered at the main campus and EGC are the same as those offered at Sacramento State University, but at a more affordable price.

Rodriguez emphasized the importance of education, stating that it is something that cannot be taken away. Overall, the new science building at the Elk Grove Center symbolizes a growing relationship between CRC and the community, paving the way for enhanced learning opportunities for students in the region.
