Facua-Consumers in Action has reported Mercadona to the General Directorate of Consumption of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 for deceptive advertising. The complaint involves the marketing of a product under Mercadona’s brand Farmer called 51% Oatmeal Tortillas. According to Facua, the product only contains around 21% oats, even though the label states it as 51%.

Facua has demanded the withdrawal of the product from the market until Mercadona changes the name to accurately reflect its ingredients. The association accuses Mercadona of misleading advertising by creating a false image of the product’s composition. This could lead consumers to believe they are purchasing a product with a higher oat content than it actually has.

Facua cited legislation that prohibits misleading advertising and unfair competition in consumer goods. They urge the Ministry to open a disciplinary file against Mercadona and request the company to withdraw the product until it is renamed.

In conclusion, Facua’s complaint highlights the importance of accurate labeling and advertising in consumer goods to prevent misleading information and protect consumers from making uninformed purchases.
