Fewer employees are seeking job changes: Companies are focusing on meeting employees’ needs

Belgian employees are now less inclined to make drastic career changes, with only a quarter of them wanting to switch jobs compared to four out of ten last year. According to HR expert Jochen Bessemans from Acerta Consult, companies are now providing what employees were previously seeking in other jobs, leading to increased job satisfaction and retention.

The reasons for wanting to change careers vary, with factors like a difficult boss, inadequate pay, lack of job satisfaction, or excessive work hours commonly cited. However, the desire for a complete career overhaul has decreased, especially among those under 45 years old. This shift can be attributed to factors like the uncertainty of the current economic climate and concerns about job security.

Despite the decline in interest in changing jobs, employees still value aspects like work-life balance, financial stability, and social impact. Companies are adapting to these preferences by offering transparent wages, promoting financial well-being, and prioritizing work-life balance. Investment in employee mental and physical well-being, including initiatives like the right to disconnect, is also increasing.

While job mobility will remain important, Acerta Consult predicts that many employees will seek internal career changes rather than switching companies. By providing training and support for adaptation, companies can encourage employees to embrace change and remain satisfied in their current roles. Overall, the focus is shifting towards employee retention and satisfaction in the workplace.
