FHSU University Communications announced that the next Science Café event at Fort Hays State University will take place on Monday, April 29th. The presentation for this month, titled “Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread,” is sponsored by FHSU’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute (SMEI) and will be held at The Venue in Thirsty’s Brew Pub & Grill, located at 2704 Vine. The event will start at 7 p.m.

During the Science Café, Dr. Eric Gillock, who is a professor of biological sciences at FHSU, will explore the topic of endogenous retroviruses, which are genetic parasites that can be found within the genomes of most eukaryotic cells. Essentially, these retroviruses act as unwanted house guests, appearing without invitation and never leaving.

These Science Café presentations are open to the public and free of charge. Any questions or inquiries about the event can be directed to Cari Rohleder at [email protected] or by phone at 785-628-4743.
