The US Army Central Command (Centcom) reported that on April 24, Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists launched an anti-ship ballistic missile towards an American ship and warship. Fortunately, there were no damages or casualties resulting from the attack. The missile was believed to be targeted at the US-flagged MV Yorktown, which had 18 American and four Greek crew members onboard. Additionally, the military intercepted and destroyed four drones that the Houthis had launched at an American destroyer. Centcom stated that these actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and enhance the safety of international waters for both the US Navy and merchant vessels.

This incident marked the first Houthi attack since April 14, when Yemeni militants were involved in a large-scale attack on Israel orchestrated by Iran. The ongoing threats posed by these groups highlight the importance of safeguarding maritime operations and ensuring the security of naval and commercial vessels in strategic waterways. The US military remains vigilant and prepared to respond to any further provocations or attacks that could jeopardize the safety and stability of the region.
