According to Foreign Minister Valtonen, Europe could do more to help Ukraine as the situation is not looking good for the country. The front is running out of both ammunition and soldiers, with strategically important locations like Avdijvka and Chasiv Yar being threatened. Commander of US Forces Europe and NATO, Christopher G. Cabbages, warned that without help, Ukraine is losing the war.

Despite the dire situation, Valtonen remains hopeful, citing the long defensive battle that has been ongoing. Now, Ukraine needs support from either the United States or Europe to turn the situation in its favor. While Europe is doing what it can, Valtonen believes more support is necessary.

Germany has been criticized for its reluctance to provide weapons to Ukraine due to fears of provoking Russia. However, Valtonen explains that internal political discussions in EU countries determine their willingness to support Ukraine. Finland, on the other hand, has been a substantial supporter of Ukraine financially.

Valtonen emphasizes the need to continue raising the issue of support for Ukraine, particularly within the EU and NATO. As Russia’s border neighbors, Finns understand the threat Ukraine faces, which may not be as evident in other European countries.

In terms of potential solutions to the conflict, Valtonen rejects the idea of Ukraine handing over territories to Russia. Instead, he believes it is up to the Ukrainians to decide how to proceed. Valtonen recalls the Euromaidan protests as a demonstration of Ukraine’s will to fight for its independence and freedom.

The ongoing support for Ukraine from various countries, including financial aid and security commitments from Finland, highlights the importance of standing with Ukraine in its time of need. Valtonen remains committed to advocating for Ukraine’s support and believes that leaving the country in oblivion is not an option.
