Gen AI Streamlines Manufacturing Decision-Making at Georgia-Pacific

Georgia-Pacific, a manufacturer of paper goods products and parent company to popular brands like Quilted Northern, Brawny, Dixie, and Vanity Fair, is leveraging generative AI capabilities to enhance their manufacturing decision-making processes. By utilizing advanced analytics and intelligent decision management tools, the company is able to analyze sensor data, business rules, and recommender systems to quickly determine the best course of action within their manufacturing operations.

Roshan Shah, the vice president of collaboration and support center at Georgia-Pacific, highlighted the impact of SAS technology in helping the company capture immediate value by making timely decisions as events unfold. Through their partnership with SAS, Georgia-Pacific has gained access to AI and ML-powered qualitative decisioning flow tools, data anonymization and encryption techniques, natural language processing capabilities, and data governance tools.

The use of predictive AI-powered decision-making is becoming increasingly valuable for consumer goods companies. According to a recent report from Relex, 27% of surveyed CPG and retail respondents identified slow and misaligned planning cycles as key pain points, while 79% of CPGs emphasized the importance of day-level planning for accurately forecasting and responding to consumer demands. This highlights the growing industry trend towards leveraging advanced technology to optimize manufacturing operations and improve overall business performance.
