The German Navy is interested in purchasing the Hermes 900 UAV produced by the Israeli company Elbit, as reported by the Israel Defense website. A spokesman for German airline Lufthansa announced a collaboration with Elbit Systems through its subsidiary Lufthansa Technik on military drones. Elbit has declined to comment on the matter. A memorandum of understanding was signed between Lufthansa Technik and Elbit Systems in January 2023, but there is no official contract in place yet.

According to reports, the German Navy is looking into an agreement for the supply and maintenance of eight Hermes 900 StarLiner UAVs. Lufthansa Technik will handle maintenance and crew training, while Elbit will be responsible for producing the UAVs. The specific cost of the contract has not been disclosed. This project marks the first UAV maintenance endeavor for Lufthansa Technik, which has previously provided support for NATO aircraft fleets including F-35 fighter jets, Chinook transport helicopters, and Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft.
