When Jarrett Dahl graduated from high school, he embarked on a journey to discover his future. After visiting a family friend in Soldotna, Alaska, who taught him how to create sculptures using a chainsaw, Jarrett found his passion in chainsaw art. Years later, Jarrett and his brother relocated their business to South Dakota where Jarrett continues to receive commissions for his art.
One of Jarrett’s most challenging projects was an eight-foot-tall Bigfoot followed by a 12-foot Sasquatch sculpture. With the help of a local guide named Richard, the brothers discovered Keystone, a popular tourist town near Sturgis, Mt. Rushmore, and Deadwood. Inspired by Richard, Jarrett and a team of talented chainsaw artists set out to create the world’s largest Bigfoot in Keystone.
The artists spent a month crafting a 23-foot tall sitting Sasquatch holding a 54-foot tall flagpole, which would be its height if standing. This unique sculpture attracts attention from passersby and draws visitors to Dahl’s Chainsaw Art in Keystone. The sculpture’s details, including Bigfoot’s face, hands, and feet, are meticulously carved, while the structure is covered in round logs resembling a thick outer coat made from cedar, pine, and cottonwood.
