Steward Health Care has temporarily closed one of the cancer treatment units at Brockton’s Good Samaritan Medical Center. The closure is due to the suspension of infusion services at SMG Regional Hematology-Oncology at Brockton, an independent practice that operated inside Good Samaritan, following the departure of the unit’s physician. However, the radiation oncology and surgical oncology units remain open and only outpatient services are affected. Inpatient infusion services are still available at the medical center. The Department of Public Health is making referrals for patients to receive treatment at other hospitals.

Steward Health Care is currently facing a financial crisis, raising concerns about the future of its hospitals in Massachusetts.
