The Airports Council International (ACI) World recently released data that ranks the top ten busiest airports in the world for 2023. This ranking is based on information collected from more than 2,600 airports in over 180 countries and territories globally. For the third consecutive year, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport secured the top spot on the list with a staggering 104.7 million passengers in 2023.

The aviation industry as a whole saw a significant rebound in global passenger numbers, with a nearly 94 percent increase from pre-pandemic levels. International travel is rapidly approaching the same levels as domestic travel, indicating a positive trend for the industry. ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira highlighted the role of international travel in driving this growth, citing factors such as China’s reopening and a growing interest in travel despite economic conditions.

In addition to Atlanta, five other U.S. airports ranked among the world’s busiest in 2023. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport dropped to the third spot on the list, while Dubai International Airport climbed to second place. Denver International Airport claimed the sixth position, followed by Los Angeles at eighth place and Chicago at ninth.
