Health department probes near drowning incident at New York water park

The New York State Department of Health is currently investigating an indoor waterpark after a 5-year-old child nearly drowned over the weekend. The incident took place at Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark in Queensbury, New York, with the child being found unresponsive in the water. Thankfully, the child was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Drowning incidents at regulated bathing facilities in New York are typically investigated by local health departments or state district offices, according to Monica Pomeroy, the public information officer for the state health department. In this particular case, the state department’s Glens Falls District Office is handling the investigation, though no further details can be provided.

Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark has been in operation since 2006 and is owned by Six Flags. The response to the incident involving the child was carried out with the assistance of West Glens Falls EMS, Queensbury Central Fire, and the New York State Police, in addition to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. The state health department’s investigation will determine the cause of the incident and any necessary actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
