Huawei recently released its Pura 70 series smartphones for sale at its flagship store in Beijing, attracting customers to check out the new devices. This release marks Huawei’s resurgence in China, as the company is on track to surpass Apple in the largest smartphone market in the world.

In the first quarter, Huawei experienced an impressive 70% increase in smartphone sales in China, while Apple saw a decline of over 19% in sales during the same period. This growth has placed Huawei in a strong position in the premium smartphone segment, directly impacting Apple’s sales.

Apple, which previously held nearly 20% market share in China’s smartphone market, has now dropped to the third position with a market share of 15.7%. In contrast, Huawei’s market share has risen to 15.5% from 9.3% last year, highlighting the company’s significant growth and dominance in the market.

Huawei’s success was further highlighted by the popularity of its Mate 60 Pro smartphone, which garnered attention due to its advanced processor. Despite challenges from the United States to restrict China’s access to foreign chip technology, Huawei managed to acquire sophisticated chips, surprising industry experts.

Apple’s global smartphone sales also saw a decline of 10% in the first quarter, mainly due to a loss of momentum in China. The Chinese market remains crucial for Apple, but the company is facing stiff competition from local brands as Chinese consumers increasingly prefer domestic smartphones.

Overall smartphone sales in China increased by 1.5% in the first quarter, with local brands like Vivo and Honor leading in market share. The shifting dynamics in China’s smartphone market reflect the changing preferences of consumers and the growing competition among smartphone manufacturers in the country.
