Lummus Technology has strengthened its relationship with a long-time customer, IndianOil Corp. Ltd. (IOCL), by securing an award for their cumene technology. This is Lummus’ second recent cumene license in India. The technology will be used in a 440 KTA unit at IOCL’s complex in Paradip, India as part of a petrochemical and polymers expansion project.

According to Romain Lemoine, Chief Business Officer for Polymers and Petrochemicals at Lummus Technology, the cumene technology will provide IndianOil with lower energy costs, reliability, operational efficiency, and exceptional product yield. This will help IOCL optimize their plant economics and support their growth initiatives. Lummus looks forward to continuing their successful partnership with IndianOil.

Lummus’ scope of work includes providing the technology license for the cumene technology, basic design engineering, proprietary catalyst, site services, advisory services, and training. IndianOil has previously licensed multiple technologies from Lummus, including naphtha cracker, INDMAX FCC, and polypropylene technologies at various complexes across India.

Since 2007, Lummus and Versalis have partnered to license cumene technologies. The cumene process is a liquid-phase alkylation technology using a proprietary zeolite catalyst, resulting in a very high cumene yield, ultra-high purity cumene product, and a long catalyst run length.

Lummus Technology is a global leader in developing technology solutions for a more sustainable, low carbon future. They provide process technologies in clean fuels, renewables, petrochemicals, polymers, gas processing, and supply lifecycle services, catalysts, proprietary equipment, and digitalization to customers worldwide.
