More than 1,000 demonstrators in Hamburg gathered for a rally organized by Islamists over the weekend. The protest took place in the St. Georg district and was in response to what they perceived as Islamophobic policies and media campaigns in Germany. The rally was heavily policed, but there were no incidents reported. The police estimated that 1,100 people took part in the demonstration. The Hamburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution revealed that the rally was registered by the Muslim Interaktiv group, which is classified as extremist. This group had previously organized a demonstration in St. Georg in October, despite being banned.
