Deion Sanders has established a tradition as the Colorado coach where the Buffaloes are experiencing a busy day of departures in the transfer portal. The spring transfer window opened on Tuesday, and several players have already entered with the intention of playing elsewhere. Cormani McClain, a former five-star prospect and 247Sports’ No. 1 ranked cornerback in 2023, announced his plans to enter the portal on Tuesday. While McClain wasn’t a major contributor last year for the Buffs, his departure could impact the program’s outlook moving forward. This news follows the loss of starting offensive lineman Savion Washington, who started 10 games at right tackle last season. With Washington’s departure, Colorado now needs to replace all five of its starting offensive linemen and their 114 combined starts from last season.

On the defensive side, Colorado also lost key linemen Chazz Wallace and Devee Harris, as well as former Top247 safety Myles Slusher. Each of these players contributed significantly to the team last season. As Sanders prepares for his second year leading the program, he will need to address the departures and look for replacements in the transfer portal.

Colorado has already seen multiple players enter the transfer portal this spring, setting the tone for Sanders’ second year at the helm of the program. The departures of key players like McClain, Washington, Wallace, Harris, and Slusher will require the Buffaloes to rebuild and seek depth from the transfer portal to fill these gaps in the roster. It will be a challenging offseason for Colorado as they navigate these changes and aim to strengthen their team for the upcoming season.
