Kim Caldwell recruits Nolan Harvath as the Lady Vols’ new director of sports performance

Lady Vols basketball coach Kim Caldwell recently made an important addition to her staff, hiring Nolan Harvath as the new director of sports performance. The announcement was made on Thursday, with Harvath joining the Lady Vols after working with the West Virginia strength and conditioning staff since December 2020. Previously, Harvath and Caldwell had the opportunity to work together at Division II Glenville State.

Caldwell expressed her excitement about having Harvath join the team, highlighting their previous experience working together and Harvath’s dedication to the program’s vision. She is confident that he will help the team become the hardest working in the country, pushing for continuous improvement every day. Harvath replaces Bryan Tatum, who was not retained from the previous staff.

Harvath brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at WVU with the football team since spring 2022. He was initially hired to assist with the baseball and golf programs. Prior to his time at West Virginia, Harvath served as the director of strength and conditioning at Glenville State from 2018-20, also taking on the role of assistant athletic director.

Originally from Fairmont, West Virginia, Harvath graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 2013 with a degree in exercise science. He then pursued his master’s degree in athletic coaching education at WVU, graduating in 2016. Harvath began his career as a senior at USI, working at the Sports Acceleration Center in Evansville, Indiana. He later gained experience as a strength and conditioning coach at East Fairmont High and Morgantown High, as well as with Pro Performance in Morgantown. He also interned at WVU and worked with the football team, also serving as a consultant for the University of Charleston baseball team.

In her role covering University of Tennessee women’s athletics, Cora Hall shared the news of Harvath’s appointment as the new director of sports performance for Lady Vols basketball.
