The first peace summit for Ukraine is scheduled to take place next month in Burgenstock, Switzerland. Organized with the goal of bringing world leaders together to explore ways to achieve long-lasting peace, the summit will serve as an opportunity to inspire a potential future peace process. Any agreements made during the summit will be in accordance with the UN Charter and international law, which aim to uphold peace and security globally.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the significance of the summit, stating that it extends beyond Ukraine and is of interest to all peace-loving nations. He highlighted the importance of recognizing every nation’s global role, respecting international law, and promoting peaceful coexistence worldwide.

Although Russia has not yet received an invitation to the summit, the Swiss government stressed the importance of involving Russia in the peace process. The government stated that a peace process without Russia’s participation would not be feasible. However, Russia announced last week that it would not be participating in the event. Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed that talks on ending the conflict in Ukraine would be meaningless without Russia’s involvement.

The summit is scheduled to take place on 15-16 June, although the participation of Russia remains uncertain at this time.
