I missed sharing this column last week, during National Volunteer Week, but I wanted to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for our Lee Health volunteers. Lee Health is extremely grateful for the service and support of our dedicated volunteer workforce. Volunteers contribute to almost every department in our hospitals and offices across the health system and community-based locations, both in patient care and non-patient care roles. Whether they are working in a gift shop, helping with clerical tasks, driving a trolley, or assisting with patient transport, our volunteers make a meaningful impact and enhance the experiences of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Many of our volunteers are former patients or family members of patients who have personally experienced our care and are eager to give back. One such individual is Reba George, who decided to become a volunteer after her positive experience as a patient. Her story can be found at https://tinyurl.com/YTReba. At Lee Health, a medical or nursing background is not required to volunteer—you simply need a desire to make a difference and assist others. Some of our volunteers have shared their reasons for choosing to volunteer with us, which can be viewed at https://tinyurl.com/YTVolunteers.

We deeply appreciate the efforts, support, kindness, and companionship of our volunteers. They are an essential part of our mission-driven team. If you are interested in volunteering at Lee Health, we encourage you to join us.
