Mackenzie Salmon provides insights into the NFL Draft’s first round, discussing some surprising and expected picks made on the first night of the event.

CBS’s NFL pregame show is undergoing changes as the network announced that former league MVP Matt Ryan will be joining “The NFL Today,” while longtime analysts Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason will not be returning. Ryan, who retired from the NFL last week after a successful career with the Atlanta Falcons, joined CBS Sports last season as an NFL game analyst and appeared in the studio during the playoffs and Super Bowl.

The departure of Simms, who had been with CBS for nearly 20 years, marks the end of an era for the former New York Giants quarterback. Esiason, who played quarterback for multiple NFL teams, spent over two decades on the “NFL Today” set, making him the show’s longest-tenured analyst. Esiason will continue his work with CBS through his radio show on WFAN, which is also simulcast on CBS Sports Network.

Both Esiason and Simms had their contracts expire after the Super Bowl, and CBS decided not to renew them. Ryan, a highly accomplished player with over 60,000 career passing yards and an MVP award, expressed excitement about joining “The NFL Today” and continuing the show’s high standards set by his predecessors.

Reflecting on his new role, Ryan shared his appreciation for the opportunity and the chance to work with his new colleagues. His vast experience and success in the NFL make him a valuable addition to the iconic pregame show, and he is looking forward to contributing to its continued success.
